Building Community Trust In Property Development

Written by Riye Arai-Coupe

Developers need to reconnect with local communities to drive better outcomes at a neighbourhood level. Communities by their very nature are interconnected and ever changing. As such, property development cannot happen in isolation and there are always numerous stakeholders who are impacted along the way.

I am always astounded when we see property developer ignore a local resident’s opinions and push ahead with proposals or conduct community consultation as purely a “box-ticking” exercise. It reflects badly on those of us in the industry who sincerely wish to engage with stakeholders to deliver legacy projects that add value, beauty and vibrancy. Fortunately, there are many community-minded developers who are truly committed to authentic, personal and outcome-driven engagement.

Since the establishment of Bluebird Property, over the past two years we’ve been fortunate to help some of these visionary industry leaders bring their concepts to life. For a project in New Farm, a suburb renowned for passionately projecting its character, our firm undertook a comprehensive consultation process which resulted in 94 per cent of the public submissions being letters of support. Maison, a boutique development by Frank Developments and GRAYA on Moray Street, was recently approved by Brisbane City Council with zero appeals, in what is a rarity for the suburb.

The end result is a win for the community and a win for the future residents who will soon join them. Not only will this development add to the value of surrounding properties in the neighbourhood, it is a new benchmark in design and architecture for the wider Brisbane landscape.

Community means everything to our team and clients so by consulting early and gaining community input, you will create better outcomes for all.
