DO MORE - EnviroDevelopment

At the end of August 2021, Bluebird registered to be certified and recognised for EnviroDevelopment’s 6 ‘Leaves’ for 5 Dudley Street, Highgate Hill Project. Bluebird strives to offer benefits for not only buyers, businesses and developers but for the environment in which we live in.

The UDIA’s EnviroDevelopment certification is a scientifically-based assessment scheme which independently reviews development projects to award certification across four or more elements – Ecosystems, Waste, Energy, Materials, Water and Community.

The standards required to achieve all six elements, also known as ‘leaves’, are assessed and determined by a panel of government, ecologists, industry and environmental experts. Bluebird is passionate about sustainability and creating developments that incorporate both environmental and sustainable measures.

Each leaf is a certification from EnviroDevelopment for the following achievements:

Ecosystems - Protected and enhanced health and sustainability of natural systems and the encouragement of native biodiversity and rehabilitation of degraded sites. The three primary criteria relate to aquatic, earthworks and urban ecology design.

Waste - Comprehensive waste management procedures and practices to reduce the amount of waste to landfill. This must be considered up-front as well as during the pre and post-construction phases.

Energy - Reduced production of greenhouse gases and reduced use of fossil fuels. This is achieved through greater efficiencies in energy usage and use of renewable and non-polluting energy sources such as solar power. The ultimate objective is to create a climate responsive design.

Materials - Environmentally responsible material usage including reuse of materials, recycled materials and consideration of the life cycle environmental costs of materials.

Water - Improved water use through water efficiency mechanisms and / or source substitution such as rainwater and storm water harvesting.

Community - Vibrant, cohesive, sustainable communities with good community design; the provision of community facilities and networks; safe, accessible housing and options for the reduced use of private motor vehicles. Community consultation prior to lodging a DA is also critical to achieve the Community Leaf.
